How to write this in past tense? Please help

It was snowing outside the school building. I put on my warm jacket, and my girlfriend Melissa,  who put on warm clothes as well, shivered at the thought of cold outside. We left the building and walked hand and hand through snow-covered streets that's all ill give you I hope you can figure out the rest
