For the answer to the question above, a system of equations has no solution when the lines representing the equation are parallel but do not coincide. For two lines to be parallel, the must have the same gradient i.e. coefficient of x when y is made the subject of formula must be equal.
If one of the equations is
y = 8x + 7,
then the other equation will be
y = 8x - 7

Mei is standing next to a statue in the park. If Mei is 5 feet tall, her shadow is 3 feet long, and the statues shadow is 10 1/2
alisha [4.7K]
The problem presented above is an example in which we can use the concept of ratio and proportion. The ratio between the heights of Mei and the statue should be the same to the ratio of their shadows. Letting x be the height of the statue.

The value of x from the equation above is 17.5 ft.

Last year, Lien earned $1,600 more than her husband. Together they earned $51,000. How much did each of them earn?
jok3333 [9.3K]

Answer:

Lien: $26300 Her husband: $24700

Step-by-step explanation:

x+(x+1600)=51000

2x+1600=51000

2x=49400

x=24700

Her husband earned 24700

24700+1600=26300

Lien earned 26300

John has a job parking cars. He earns a fixed weekly salary of $300 plus a fee of $5 for each car he parks. At what point does J
horrorfan [7]
Let us assume the number of cars parked after which John will start earning more than his fixed weekly salary = x
The fixed weekly salary of John = $300
The fee that John gets for parking each car = $5
Then we can get the equation as
5x = 300
x = 300/5
   = 60
So from the above deduction we can see that John will earn the equal amount of his weekly pay after he parks 60 cars. Then it becomes obvious that parking car number 61, John will start earning more than what he gets as his fixed weekly salary. I hope you have understood the described method.
