Answer:

The body gets energy from some compounds. Some compounds determine physical characteristics.

Explanation:

Organic compounds control many functions of the human body.

Organic compounds can be made by the body, others can be obtained by a living organism through their diets.

Some organic compounds determine the physical characteristics of a living organism.

For instance, protein

  • Make reactions possible in the body.
  • Enable transportation of other compounds around the body.
  • Provide structure of the body e.t.c

What components of a tossed salad will pass through the human digestive tract and be digested the least?
DochEvi [55]

Answer:

Cellulose (in the lettuce)

Explanation:

  • A tossed salad usually consists of many vegetables such as lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. and then, these vegetables have added dressings which can be of different types.
  • When a person eats a tossed salad then the lettuce will be least digested as it is composed mainly of cellulose and the human body is incapable of digesting cellulose.
  • The inability to digest cellulose by human beings is because there are beta acetal linkages present in the cellulose and human beings lack the enzymes that can break the linkage.
  • However, the undigested cellulose aids in the process of digestion as it acts like fiber and thus, the process of digestion can take place smoothly.
  • Thus, the intake of cellulose-rich foods is also essential.

Lipids are macromolecules which provide insulation.
<span>A macromolecule is a large molecule. There are four groups of macromolecules: carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids and lipids. Lipids consist of glycerol and fatty acids and are constructed from fats, oils, waxes, phospholipids and steroids. A lipid's function is to insulate the body and provide warmth in cold conditions. It can be concluded that a person with very little body fat gets very cold easily and a person with a lot of body fat gets very warm very quickly.

In a cross between individuals of a species of tropical fish, all of the male offspring have long tail fins, and none of the fem
sattari [20]

Answer:

Sex linked trait

Explanation:

Sex linkage is the phenomenon in which the expression of genes depends on the gender of the organisms because genes for specific traits are located on the sex chromosomes of organisms. If repeated crosses of the fish indicate the pattern that long tail fins appear only in males and not in females, it means the trait is linked to the male sex.

What are sex chromosomes:

They are usually a pair of chromosomes present in higher organisms like humans and other mammals that combine during fertilization of male and female gametes and determine the sex of offspring. In humans they are X and Y chromosomes and when there is an XX offspring, she will e female and when there will be XY offspring , he will be male.

Significance:

  • Now there are some genes that are present only on sex chromosomes of the organisms like genes for beard are present in human Y chromosome of men, However, genes found on the X chromosome can be found in either males or females.
  • Sex linked genetic disorders are very common in human males because males receive only one copy of X chromosome while females receive two copies. So only one copy of defective gene is enough for the expression of disease in males while in women  two copies are needed if the trait is recessive.
  • For example: There is a disease called hemophilia in which the blood is unable to clot even after minor injuries and can be life threatening.
  • Hemophilia is an X linked recessive disorder and is an example of sex linked traits controlled by sex linked genes.

Hope it helps!
