  • The contraction of skeletal muscles makes locomotion, posture, facial expressions and "voluntary movements" of the body possible. These are the muscles that are "attached to the bones".
  • The contraction of smooth muscles results in the involuntary movements of the internal organs of the body. These muscles are form contractile components of the arteries, urinary system and digestive tract.  
  • The contraction of cardiac muscles pumps bloods into the blood vessels of the "circulatory system".
