E) Death is a dignitary who when he comes announces is to be received with formal manifestations of respect, even by those most familiar with him.

The author made that sentence into personification because they acted as if death was a man, that everyone knew.

Answer: E) Death is a dignitary who when he comes announced is to be received with formal manifestations of respect, even by those most familiar with him.

Personification refers to the practice of giving human qualities and traits to inanimate objects or phenomena. It is a very common literary device. In this example, "death" is given human qualities, such as being a dignitary who receives manifestations of respect.

The Giver Chapters 10-13
Alex17521 [72]

Answer:

1. They have given up memories like snow, mountains, ranbows.....

2. The first memory he receives is that of sledding in the snow.  Snow and the feeling of coldness are new experiences for him. He feels himself on a sled, moving downhill, and even the concept of a hill is new to him. He finds the sled ride experience exhilarating, but this leads him to question the Giver.

3. In the dream, Jonas has the sense that his sled on a hill is meant to be part of a journey to a particular place, "as if there were a destination" (p. 88).  And he feels that this is a good thing, that wherever he was meant to journey, it was "welcoming" (88) and "significant" (88).

A letter about the day a snake got into our classroom
siniylev [52]

I am writing to let you know about an incident that occurred at our school this morning and to ask you to discuss the matter with your child.

At about 9:20 this morning, one of our fourth-grade students looked in her desk and saw a snake.

The student did not reach into the desk, but instead alerted the teacher. The teacher immediately evacuated the classroom and alerted our administration.

Our custodian and a school volunteer went to the room and retrieved the snake. It was disposed of over the back fence and into the woods behind our school. We believe the snake was a nonpoisonous black snake.

We spoke to all the students in the class and none appeared to show any signs of trauma from the event. Students returned to the classroom after the snake was removed and instruction continued normally for the rest of the day.

Thank you for everything you do for your child and our school. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school.
