Over the counter drugs are the drugs that can be sold without the prescription of doctors. Some non-prescription drugs are abused by people like cough syrup which is commonly abused by teens and young adults.
Early cough syrups was used to contain alcohol and codeine which was used in low doses to treat cough but people misused it by taking it in large amount which bring hallucination effect in them.
Now, these ingredients are replaced by dextromethorphan and high doses of it also cause hallucinogen and out of body feelings which teens enjoy. So as cough syrups are easily available they are commonly misused non-prescribing drugs by teens.
