The conditional release of an inmate with a terminal illness is called a compassionate release. It can also be termed as medical parole or medical furlough. This can be arranged by courts or wardens, but the application or processing of this type of release differs from country to country. Unlike a regular parole, this release is based on medical conditions of the inmate. It is also considered when aid outside the prison would be more helpful to the illness than the services the prison can provide.
