The rate of Ronald to do a work in a day is 1/4 of the painting. The problem can be done using ratio and proportion.

In 1 day = 1/4
It will take him 4 days to finish 1 painting.
So, it will going to take him 8 days to finish 2 whole paintings.

1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1 painting = 4 days
1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1 painting = 4 days

Solve for m: 0.02m+0.08(8-m) = 1.78
marusya05 [52]

m = 3.07

The given equation is:

0.02m + 0.08(8-m) = 1.78

Expand the equation using the distribution rule:

0.02m  +  0.64m  -  0.08m    =   1.78

Simplify the Left Hand Side

0.58m   =  1.78

Divide both sides by 0.58

0.58m / 0.58   =   1.78 / 0.58

m    =   3.07
