Complex sentence is at least one independent clause in other words after the comma in a sentence one sentence (independent clause) is counted. For example He ran the soccer tournament, he was very tired. Counting the sentence after the comma is one sentence which is one independent clause
A compound sentence is at least two independent clauses that relate one another with commas or semicolons For example Cali played soccer, and John played basketball. This sentence is a compound sentence because it compares that they both play sports and that there at least one independent clause after the comma
