What satirical statement does Washington Irving make about Tom Walker and society in this excerpt from "The Devil and Tom Walker

"?
He insisted that the money found through his means should be employed in his service. He proposed, therefore, that Tom should employ it in the black traffic; that is to say, that he should fit out a slave ship. This, however, Tom resolutely refused: he was bad enough in all conscience, but the Devil himself could not tempt him to turn slave-trader.

The answer is "He was bad enough in all conscience, but the Devil himself could not temp him to turn slave-trader. Satirical is a synonym for sarcastic. So when the Author says that Tom Walker could not be tempted by the Devil he does not literally mean "The Devil" but he means that he is too morally upright to become a slave-trader.

Why is Nobody the perfect name for Bod in the Graveyard Book. Use examples from the book.
Mazyrski [523]
Bod was a child who lived among the ghosts, an outsider of the world. He was inbetween the "dead" and the living, defining him as just about "nobody," because he was neither dead or living.

He was also a loner from when he was a toddler, that made him an isolated child from the rest of the world.

"Wow. What is that?" Simon Brimm remembers calling out to his long-time friend, Hillary Green. He and Hillary had been friends s
Romashka [77]

Answer:

The explicit idea is stated in this sentence is "The families were still close and enjoyed spending time together. "

Explanation:

In these lines from "Kids Save the Day—'Heroes' Deemed by Coast Guard!" the author mentions that Simon and Hillary have been friends since they were kids and it is also mentioned that they keep in touch and ,in fact, they took a brief vacation of a week with their families at the beach, this means that not only the two friends are close but the complete two families are.
