So, because of the increase in technology that uses energy (e.g. computers and other electronics, heating and refrigeration, etc.) and because of the population growth, we are using MORE natural resources. Also, our reliance on already established sources of energy means that we are still using mostly sources of energy that are going to run out (as opposed to renewable sources like wind and solar power.)
