1.Berlin: The Games of the XI Olympiad were held in Berlin, Germany, between August 1 and 16, 1936, during the government of Adolf Hitler. 49 countries participated, counting 3963 athletes. 19 sports and 129 disciplines were developed. The star athlete was Jesse Owens, American runner. The Nazcist leader took advantage of the show to propagandize his ideology. The games were held on a tense political atmosphere. Spain boycotted these Games and did not participate. United States had the same intention but finally was part of the event. Spain organized the Popular Olympiad in Barcelona, but was suspended for starting the Civil War the day before the opening of these games.

2.Munich: The twentieth Olympic Games were held in Munich in 1972. 23 sports were developed in which 7134 athletes competed. While the games were taking place, a terrorist act occurred in which eight Palestinians murdered two Israeli athletes taking also 9 hostages to demand, in return, the release of Palestinian prisoners. The event ended in tragedy because after the rescue attempt the hostages, 5 terrorists and a German police were killed. As a result the games were postponed for 24 hs but then they continued normally. Only a few athletes leaved the village.

Some curious facts: the pet of the event was Waldi, a dachshund. The outstanding athlete was Mark Spitz, making history by getting seven gold medals in his discipline, swimming. The USSR was the country to get more medals, followed by the United States.

3.China: The games of the XXIX Olympiad took place in Beijing, the capital city of China. They are considered the most expensive ones, exceeding 44 million dollars. The problems they faced were due to the contamination that characterizes the city and accusations of violation of human rights. In relation to this last event, the world community requested not to mix political issues with sport. The boycott intentions were not carried out.

The pets are a group of children called “Fuwa” and their names mean in mandarin Chinese: Welcome to Beijing.

Some curious facts: the swimmer Michael Phelps, representative of the United States, broke the previous mark of the country getting 8 gold medals. The Jamaican runners, Usain Bolt, was the one who achieved the world record. And in Taekwondo, Rohullah Nikpai won the first bronze medal for Afghanistan.

4.Mexico City: The nineteenth Olympic Games were held in Mexico in 1986. The participation of South Africa for its racist policies was forbidden. For the first time West and East Germany competed as separate countries and nations such as El Salvador, Honduras, Kuwait and Paraguay, among others debuted for the first time. Additionally, it was the first time that a developing country was hosting the event.

On policy issues, the student movement, tired of being imposed on a model that they considered old and disconnected from their reality, made a claim that ended in tragedy 10 days before the opening, causing the death of dozens of people.

Likewise, some doubt was generated regarding the fact that the altitude did not affect the athletes' capacity. To counteract this, Mexico undertook three previous competitions estimating a necessary acclimatization period of 6 to 8 days.

For the first time in the history of the Olympics the torch was lit by a woman, the Mexican runner Enriqueta Basilio.

Tommie Smith and John Carlos made the salute of black power, in protest of black civil rights in the United States.

5.Moscow: the twenty-second Olympic Games were held in Moscow, the capital of Soviet Union. The United States carried out a boycott in protest against the invasion of the USSR by Afghanistan and was accompanied by 60 countries that did not participate in the Olympics. Some countries participated in parading with the olympic bulge, they called the movement a Western blockade. The international sports federations protested the pressure of the United States and other countries sympathetic to the boycott, which were qualified as an inappropriate measure to achieve a political goal, and that athletes would be victims of these actions. Anyway, despite this, the event was highlighted by sports facilities and great athletes.

6.Los Angeles:  They were criticized for being totally solved with private capital but they offered unprecedented results from the financial point of view. To increase profitability and minimize the cost reused installations made previously.

In retaliation for the boycott that took place four years earlier on the Olympic Games in Moscow, the USSR and almost the entire Soviet bloc  decided not to participate.

The absence of these countries influenced the results of many disciplines. These countries organized the games of friendship in June of the same year.

The olympic eagle was the mascot of the games organized in 1984 Carl Lewis was the highlighted athlete   The first paraplegic Neroli Fairhall, from New Zealand participated in the competition.

  • The city of Berlin was selected as the seat in 1931, more than a year before the appointment of Adolf Hitler as Chancellor of Germany. It is worth noting the first intention of boycott of the games by the United States team, but finally they chose to participate. Hitler took advantage of the sport to demonstrate to the world the "magnificence" of Nazism and commissioned an elaborate program of dissemination to the propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. Spain boycotted these Games and did not participate.
  • The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games (officially called Games of the XXIX Olympiad) were held in Beijing, capital of the People's Republic of China, between August 8 and 24, 2008. However, the soccer tournament began two days before, August 6th. After its conclusion, the XIII Paralympic Games were held, which began on September 6, being held in the same city, and ending on the 17th of the same month. The Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 became the most expensive event in Olympic history, reaching a cost that would have exceeded 44 billion dollars, nearly tripling the final budget of its predecessor, the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. previous events, the organization of this event faced political and ideological problems since its election, on July 13, 2001. Along with the criticisms regarding the air pollution problems that the host city had, the accusations of violations of rights Humans who have received the Chinese regime by an important part of the international community provoked various demonstrations, which even affected the course of the Olympic torch. On the other hand, another important part of the international community called not to mix political problems with sport.
  • The Olympic Games of Munich 1972, officially known as the XX Olympic Games, was an international multi-sport event, held in Munich, Germany Federal, between August 26 and September 11, 1972. Participated 7134 athletes (6075 men and 1059 women ) from 121 countries, competing in 23 sports and 195 specialties. The 1972 Olympic Games were muddied by a terrorist act. On September 5, Palestinian terrorists first killed two Israeli athletes, and took nine others hostage, demanding the release of more than a hundred Palestinian prisoners. After a frustrated rescue attempt, a massacre broke out in which the nine Israeli hostages and a West German police officer, as well as five of the eight terrorists, were killed. Despite what happened, the Games continued with normalcy, after being suspended for only twenty-four hours. Some athletes left the Olympic village in Munich.
  • The Olympic Games of Mexico 1968, officially known as the Games of the XIX Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event held in Mexico City, Mexico, from October 12 to 27, 1968. After two unsuccessful candidacies, the Mexican capital was Selected city host of the event in the 60th Session of the International Olympic Committee. Various sports competitions of test invalidated the present fears related to the altitude of the city. For its part, the Mexican government sought to promote the country through the event. In contrast, the student movement used it to draw attention to government abuses. The conflict between the two parties reached its climax ten days before the opening ceremony, when the Mexican Army attacked a demonstration in the Plaza of the Three Cultures and caused the death of dozens of people.
  • The 1980 Moscow Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXII Olympiad, were held on this occasion in Moscow, capital of the Soviet Union, between July 19 and August 3, 1980. The candidacy was launched last moment and Moscow won the election by 39 votes to 20 received by Los Angeles at the Session of the International Olympic Committee in Vienna. The Moscow Olympics are remembered for the division of the Olympic world. 5179 athletes (4064 men and 1115 women) from 80 countries participated, competing in 21 sports and 204 specialties. Due to the cold war these games were boycotted by the US and some of its allies.
  • The Olympic Games of Los Angeles 1984, officially known as the Games of the XXIII Olympiad, were held in Los Angeles, United States, between July 28 and August 12, 1984. 6829 athletes participated (5263 men and 1566 women) from 140 countries, competing in 21 sports and 221 specialties. Although in total 14 states abstained, it was notable the absence of countries that used to be in first positions of the medal table, such as the Soviet Union, East Germany and Bulgaria. In fact, at the Montreal Olympics in 1976, the countries that were now the protagonists of the boycott had won 58% of the total gold medals. For its part, in Los Angeles, Romania won the largest number of Olympic medals in its history.

After King George iii reject the olive branch petition, parliament passed the prohibitory act, which
spayn [35]

The Prohibitory Act of 1775 was passed as a measure of retaliation by Great Britain against the general rebellion then going on in the American colonies, which became known as the American Revolutionary War (or, in the UK, the American War of Independence).

The Prohibitory Act served as an effective declaration of war by Great Britain; a blockade being an act of war under the law of nations. The colonies and Congress immediately reacted by issuing letters of marque that authorized individual American ship owners to seize British ships in a practice known as privateer; further, the act moved the American colonists more towards the option of complete independence, as the King was now declaring his "subjects" out of his protection, and levying war against them without regards to distinction as to their ultimate loyalty or their petitions for the redress of grievances.

With the contemporaneous importation by the British of bands of foreign auxiliaries into the American colonies to suppress the rebellion by sack, pillage, fire, and the sword (the infamous Hessian), and the stirring up of hostile bands of Native Americans on the frontier by the King's men to raid the colonists, it became clear, even "self-evident" to the colonists that they would neither find liberty nor security under the King's protection, and thus, they exercised certain inalienable rights, and a rebellion turned into a war of national independence.
