Why do people think the earth is flat
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]
People think the earth is flat because it seems hard to fathom that you can still stay on the earth if you're on the North Pole. This theory, that the earth is flat, was well known for hundreds of years. The vikings were the first to figure out that the earth is not flat, though Christopher Columbus gets the credit.
Hope this helps! Have a happy holiday!

How did the united states assert itself as an independent nation
devlian [24]
The Revolutionary War with Britain after British colonists were already in the US, sent by the British. Basically, they were being taxed on stuff like Molasses and Tea. They didn't want taxation from a country in which they had no representation in government. This was the reason for the Boston Tea Party. Then of course they formed their own independent country once they were free from Britain.

What promoted India to return to purely Indian named places in the early 2000s? A desire to erase traces of British colonial inf
tia_tia [17]

I think the best answer would be “a desire to erase traces of British colonial influence”

Indian returned to purely Indian named places started in 1947 and is still continually happening right now.  Locals still call the names of some places as to the original name such as Mumbai; locals call it Bombay also with the presence of Bombay High Court.
