The part of the brain that receives sensory stimuli and passes along the information to the other parts of the brain is the thalamus.

The brain is made up of different components and thalamus is parts of the brain. It is a small structure in the middle of the brain and can be found within the cerebral cortex. Also, the thalamus is made up of two parts called lobes.

Further Explanation

The thalamus performs many functions; it regulates motor functions and also plays a vital role in sensory perception. Thalamus is a small structure that connects the areas within the cerebral cortex that are responsible for sensory perception.

Thalamus regulates sensory information such as sleep and states of consciousness. The thalamus transmit signals to the brain and the signals are meant to reduce responds and feelings to sensory information

The thalamus performs many functions in the body

 • Regulates motor functions
 • It regulates sleep, alertness, and consciousness
 • It controls the formation of memory and emotional expression
 • It transmits signals to other parts of the brain

Any damage to the thalamus can be very risky because it can result in memory problems, sleep disorder, lack of movement and can as well result in a permanent coma.

Therefore, the part of the brain that receives sensory stimuli and passes along the information to the other parts of the brain is the thalamus.
