The brain is made up of different components and thalamus is parts of the brain. It is a small structure in the middle of the brain and can be found within the cerebral cortex. Also, the thalamus is made up of two parts called lobes.

The thalamus performs many functions; it regulates motor functions and also plays a vital role in sensory perception. Thalamus is a small structure that connects the areas within the cerebral cortex that are responsible for sensory perception.

Thalamus regulates sensory information such as sleep and states of consciousness. The thalamus transmit signals to the brain and the signals are meant to reduce responds and feelings to sensory information

The thalamus performs many functions in the body

  • It controls the formation of memory and emotional expression

Any damage to the thalamus can be very risky because it can result in memory problems, sleep disorder, lack of movement and can as well result in a permanent coma.
