Sam was home one night when the lights went out during a thunderstorm. He was looking in the kitchen closet for a flashlight to

help him see, but it was hard to find the flashlight in the dark without using a flashlight! His circumstances struck Sam as pretty funny. This story contains what kind of irony?

Irony is a figure of speech which contradicts what is expected and what actually happens.

Situational irony is when the result of a situation is different from what you would expect. It is commonly used in sitcoms - for example, a man bought a cake to show how much he loved his wife but it turned out that she hated the sort of cake that he brought to celebrate.

Situational irony. He would have been able to find the flashlight had the light not gone out, so it is situational.

What does root word mean?
Marrrta [24]

Answer:

A root word has no prefix or suffix

Explanation:

— it's the most basic part of a word. ... It's what's left after you remove all the affixes — the prefixes like "un-" or "anti-" and suffixes such as "-able" and "-tion." With a word like "lovely," when you take away the suffix "-ly," you're left with the root word "love."

Darya [45]

It seems to me that the two forces struggling when the narrator bites back her tongue are Meimei vs. self. This meaning, the narrator is battling herself, her Meimei self. Her family called her that way because she was the youngest sister.  It seems to me that is a battle against her childhood, her attempt to be or, at least, act as a grown up. Her mother is telling she to restrain her childish whim.
