Which of the following gases would have the greatest kinetic energy at 300 K?
tekilochka [14]

Answer:

D. All of them would have the same kinetic energy

Explanation:

The expression for the kinetic energy of the gas is:-

K.E.=\frac{3}{2}\times K\times T

k is Boltzmann's constant = 1.38\times 10^{-23}\ J/K

T is the temperature

Since, kinetic energy depends only on the temperature. Thus, at same temperature, at 300 K, all the gases which are N_2,\ NH_3\ and\ Ar will posses same value of kinetic energy.

B) Explain three ways by which water can be purified in the home
frosja888 [35]

Explanation:

Water can be purified from through...

Filtration - This involves the use of filter paper to remove solid objects found in water.

Boiling - This involves keeping water at 100 deg celcius for a while through application of heat and this kills microorganisms in the water.

Addition of alum - Alum causes very fine and small particles that are suspending in water to stick together making them large enough to be removed through filtration.

Chemicals used in water treatment...

Chlorine - Chlorine is used to kill bacteria, viruses and other disease causing pathogens found in water

That's all I know...

Acid deposition would most likely result in_________
luda_lava [24]

Answer: Acid rain.

Explanation:

According to some experts, acid precipitation can lead to acid rain. Acid rain is a product of chemical reactions caused by the release of compounds such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides into the air. These substances can form in the atmosphere itself and react with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form more acidic pollutants, known as acid rain.

There are specific theories that nitrogen oxides cause acid rain, in other sulfur oxides, which are produced by the combustion of coal or petroleum products, for example, in thermal power plants, automobile engines, and plants for the production and purification of metals. With water vapor, they produce nitric or sulfuric acid, respectively. This natural disaster is very bad for flora and fauna, it has a particular negative reflection on forests and the aquatic world, especially fish.

Given a chemical equation, showing the dissociation of an acid in solution, be able to identify the "acid", the "base", the "con
Karo-lina-s [1.5K]

Explanation:

According to the Bronsted-Lowry conjugate acid-base theory:

 • An acid is defined as a substance which looses donates protons and thus forming conjugate base
 • A base is defined as a substance which accepts protons and thus forming conjugate acid.

HA+H_2O\rightarrow A^-+H_3O^+

Suppose acid Ha is getting dissociated in its solution and after dissociation it donates its proton to water molecule and forms conjugate base. Where as water (acting as a base) accepts protons and forms conjugate acid.

HA = Acid

H_2O = Base

A^- = Conjugate base

H_3O^+ = Conjugate acid

For example:

H_2SO_4+2H_2O\rightarrow SO_4^{2-}+2H_3O^+

Sulfuric acid dissociating in its solution to form conjugate base and conjugate acid.

Sulfuric acid = Acid

H_2O = Base

SO_^{2-} = Conjugate base

H_3O^+ = Conjugate acid
