Mitosis and binary fission are both forms of cell division that produce identical, or close to identical, daughter cells. What i

s a difference between these two processes? Mitosis involves two rounds of divisions, whereas binary fission only involves one round of divisions. Mitosis takes longer because it involves more chromosomes and is a more complicated process. Binary fission involves multiple chromosomes, while mitosis only involves one circular chromosome. Binary fission takes longer because prokaryotic cells are more primitive and slower than eukaryotic cells.

Answer:

The correct answer will be option- Mitosis takes longer because it involves more chromosomes and is a more complicated process.

Explanation:

The binary fission is a process which divides a parent cell into daughter cells common in prokaryotes. The mitosis is a type of cell division which also produces two daughter cells from a single parent. They are an almost similar process but shows differences like mitosis process evolved in eukaryotes- multicellular organisms which are highly complex and contains a large amount of DNA than prokaryotes.

The mitosis process is highly complex as first, the cell has to prepare for the cell division then package the DNA into chromosomes and division of these chromosomes followed by cytoplasmic division. This whole process takes longer time and completes in 24 hours whereas the binary fission completes in just 20 minutes.

Thus, the selected option is the correct answer.

7. Suppose that a dominant allele (P) codes for a polka-dot tail and a recessive allele (p) codes for a solid colored tail. If
Oksi-84 [34.3K]

Hi!

The correct answer would be A.

Explanation:

As the allele P for polka dot is dominant to the allele p for solid color, it would yield a Polka dot tail in the individual in the presence of just one allele of P, while masking the effect of p for solid color.

So the possible genotypes and phenotypes would be as follows:

 1. PP (Polka dot tail)
 2. Pp (Polka dot tail)
 3. pP (Polka dot tail)
 4. pp (Solid color tail)

Following a cross by two heterozygous individuals, there would be 25 percent chance (1/4) of having the genotype pp , 25 percent (1/4) chance of having the genotype PP and 50 percent (2/4) chance of having the genotype Pp.

But the phenotype yielded by Pp and PP offspring would be polka dots, so there is a 75 percent (3/4) chance of having polka dot offspring, and 25 percent chance of having solid colored tail offspring.

Hope this helps!

ch4aika [34]

Nocardia is important in bioremediation process because they can decompose polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, chlorophenols, sulfonated azo dyes and alkanes.

What is bioremediation?

Bioremediation is the process of using living organisms such as microorganisms to degrade wastes in the environment in order to return it to its previous healthy state.

An example of a microorganism used in bioremediation is Nocardia spp.

Nocardia is important in bioremediation because they can decompose polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, chlorophenols, sulfonated azo dyes and alkanes.

Based on the complete question which is given as follows:

"Nocardia are of particular interest to scientists for the process of bioremediation because they can degrade _________. (Check all that apply) A. petroleum Hydrocarbons B. rence benzone C. pectin Keratin D. Decode Chiron", the correct options are A and B.
