Which is the best estimate for the sum 3/8 and 1/12
andrew11 [14]
When you want to add fractions with different denominators-which are the bottom numbers- you have to find the lowest numbers that you can multiply to go into both numbers.  I know that you can multiply 8×3 to get 24.  And that I can multiply 12×2 to get 24.  So 24 would be what we change the denominators to.

But we can't just change the denominators.  I have to change the numerators, too.  Since I multiplied 8×3, I have to multiply the numerator by 3, also.  3×3=9.  The new fraction is \frac{9}{24}.

Do the same thing to the other fraction. But we will multiply by 2. 1×2=2.  So now we have \frac{2}{24}.  We can now add.

\frac{9}{24}+\frac{2}{24}  Only add the top numbers.  We have \frac{11}{24}That fraction cannot be reduced, so \frac{11}{24} is the final answer.

Answer:

I think it's false.

In mathematics, a function is a binary relation between two sets that associates every element of the first set to exactly one element of the second set.

(3.6x10^-5)÷(1.8x10^2) in standard form
Lerok [7]

<u>Answer: </u>

The standard form of \left(3.6 \times 10^{-5}\right) \div\left(1.8 \times 10^{2}\right) is 0.0000002

<u>Solution: </u>

We have to write \left(3.6 \times 10^{-5}\right) \div\left(1.8 \times 10^{2}\right) in standard form.

=\frac{3.6 \times 10^{-5}}{1.8 \times 10^{2}}

By dividing 3.6 by 1.8 we get “2”, hence the above equation becomes,

=\frac{2 \times 10^{-5}}{10^{2}}

We know that \frac{x^{a}}{x^{b}}=x^{a-b}

Therefore the above equation becomes,

=2 \times 10^{-5-2}

=2 \times 10^{-7}

since the exponent of 10 is negative , therefore 7 zeros are written on the left hand side of the number.

= 0.0000002

Hence the standard form of \left(3.6 \times 10^{-5}\right) \div\left(1.8 \times 10^{2}\right) is 0.0000002
