The x coordinates remain the same, the Y coordinates are reversed ( a postive becomes a negative, a negative becomes a positive).

Locate the 3 original points:

(2,7) becomes (2,-7)

(-5,-2) becomes  (-5, 2)

(4,-3) becomes (4,3)

Given A (-10,-3.5) and B (2, 5.5), find the coordinates of point P on AB so that P partitions AB in the ratio 5:1.
Sunny_sXe [5.5K]

\textit{internal division of a line segment using ratios} \\\\\\ A(-10,-3.5)\qquad B(2,5.5)\qquad \qquad \stackrel{\textit{ratio from A to B}}{5:1} \\\\\\ \cfrac{A\underline{P}}{\underline{P} B} = \cfrac{5}{1}\implies \cfrac{A}{B} = \cfrac{5}{1}\implies 1A=5B\implies 1(-10,-3.5)=5(2,5.5)

(\stackrel{x}{-10}~~,~~ \stackrel{y}{-3.5})=(\stackrel{x}{10}~~,~~ \stackrel{y}{27.5})\implies P=\underset{\textit{sum of the ratios}}{\left( \cfrac{\stackrel{\textit{sum of x's}}{-10+10}}{5+1}~~,~~\cfrac{\stackrel{\textit{sum of y's}}{-3.5+27.5}}{5+1} \right)} \\\\\\ P=\left( \cfrac{0}{6}~~,~~\cfrac{24}{6} \right)\implies P=(0~~,~~4)

Consider the given function and the given interval. f\(x\) = (x - 7)**2 text(, ) [5 text(, ) 11] (a) Find the average value fave
Jet001 [13]

a. f has an average value on [5, 11] of

f_{\rm ave}=\displaystyle\frac1{11-5}\int_5^{11}(x-7)^2\,\mathrm dx=\frac{(x-7)^3}{18}\bigg|_5^{11}=\frac{4^3-(-2)^3}{18}=4

b. The mean value theorem guarantees the existence of c\in(5,11) such that f(c)=f_{\rm ave}. This happens for

(c-7)^2=4\implies c-7=\pm2\implies c=9\text{ or }c=5

9514 1404 393

Answer:

no; 1+1=2, a number not in the set

Step-by-step explanation:

A set is closed under addition if the addition of any two members of the set results in a member of the set.

  0 + 0 = 0 . . . in the set

  0 + 1 = 1 . . . in the set

  1 + 0 = 1 . . . in the set

  1 + 1 = 2 . . . not in the set. The set is not closed under addition.
