In developed nations people have more fast food options which lead to cardiovascular disease. As well as screen time all day since this is one of the factors of cardiovascular disease. Undeveloped nations don't have fast-food or television to watch all day, since they play outside.

In developed nations, people tend to live longer and healthier lives. There is so much less war/violent act related deaths in developed nations than in other areas of the world. Also, quality pre-natal care and standardized childhood vaccinations prevent many diseases and early deaths. On that same note, relatively accessible healthcare and medications prevent early deaths as well. Lastly, endemic areas tend to have very high rates of infectious diseases (think malaria, HIV, shigellosis) due to lack of clean running water, proper hygiene, proper education, accessible medications/vaccinations, etc. So, why then, do developed nations have more cardiovascular and degenerative diseases? Well, the point I am approaching is that these kind of illnesses are diseases of old age-in third world countries there are much fewer people that ever live to see the age where they may develop heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, etc.

Marina CMI [18]

Answer:

Each mutant would be mated to wild type and to every other mutant to create diploid strains. The diploids would be assayed for growth at permissive and restrictive temperature. Diploids formed by mating a mutant to a wild type that can grow at restrictive temperatures identify the mutation as recessive. Only recessive mutations can be studied using complementation analysis. Diploids formed by mating two recessive mutants identify mutations in the same gene if the diploid cannot grow at restrictive temperature (non-complementation), and they identify mutations in different genes if the diploids can grow at restrictive temperature (complementation).

Explanation:

Recessive mutations are those whose phenotypic effects are only visible in homo-zygous individuals. Moreover, a complementation test is a genetic technique used to determine if two different mutations associated with a phenotype colocalize in the same locus (i.e., they are alleles of the same gene) or affect two different loci. In diploid (2n) organisms, this test is performed by crossing two homo-zygous recessive mutants and then observing whether offspring have the wild-type phenotype. When two different recessive mutations localize in different loci, they can be considered as 'complementary' since the heterozygote condition may rescue the function lost in homo-zygous recessive mutants. In consequence, when two recessive mutations are combined in the same genetic background (i.e., in the same individual) and they produce the same phenotype, it is possible to determine that both mutations are alleles of the same gene/locus.

How do the nervous system and endocrine system work together? apex?
jek_recluse [69]
The nervous and the endocrine system are tightly linked together.
The main reason for this linkage is due to the connection of the hypothalamus (nervous system) and the hypophysis (a gland in the endocrine system)
The hypophysis is the ''controller'' of all of the other endocrine glands.
The connection between the hypothalamus and the hypophysis enables the nervous system to control the hormone levels of all of the major endocrine glands in the body.
The hypothalamus releases hormones into the bloodstream that leads to the hypophysis. These hormones induce a release of hypophysis hormones that enter the bloodstream and when they reach the target gland (for example pancreas) these hormones induce the release of the hormones of that gland (in the case of the pancreas, insulin).
The hypothalamus monitors the concentration of hormones in the blood, and a high level of a certain hormone blocks the release of the hypothalamus' hormones. Therefore, a high level of insulin blocks a cascade of hormone release that starts in the hypothalamus that leads to its release in the pancreas.
