An example of an historical turning point was the emergence of the Enlighment era, that led to the creation of democratic states.

The Enlighment movement emerged in Europe during the 18th century and it was constituted by philosophers that promoted Reason and the scientific method over medieval superstition and religious dogmas, and the establishment of democratic societies where the power resided on its people, and not in monarchs or rulers "appointed by God". The resulting states that emerged based on the principles of this movement, enacted bills of civil rights for the first time in history, and implemented principles such as the division of powers or the social contract, through which citizens elected their governors by suffrage.

Such Enlightment principles were transferred to the American colonies, where the population claimed for political representation rather than being governed by foreigners that were appointed by a foreign king. Such claims were ignored and the colonies, influenced by the new democratic principles, started several revolutionary movements for independence aiming to establish new states based on the Enlightment principles such as in Europe.

1. How did the Nazi's use terror to rule Germany?
ratelena [41]

Answer:

1. The Nazis created a terror-state. This was achieved through intimidation and brutality. Those living in Germany were too scared to disobey Nazi laws.

Hitler used a number of organizations to uphold and extend his control of Germany.

2. The Nazis tried to make Germany self-sufficient - that is to produce all the goods it needed without having to rely on imported supplies. They called this policy 'Autarky'. The Nazis implemented a major programme of public works, such as building and repairing roads, railways and houses

3. I cant figure out this one

4. Attempts at modifying public opinions, attitudes, and beliefs range from advertising and schooling to “brainwashing.” Their effectiveness is highly controversial. We demonstrate that Nazi indoctrination––with its singular focus on fostering racial hatred––was highly effective. Germans who grew up under the Nazi regime are much more anti-Semitic today than those born before or after that period. These findings demonstrate that beliefs can be modified massively through policy intervention. We also show that it was probably Nazi schooling that was most effective, and not radio or cinema propaganda. Where schooling could tap into preexisting prejudices, indoctrination was particularly strong. This suggests that confirmation bias may play an important role in intensifying attitudes toward minorities.

Nos engenhos coloniais eram geralmente as mulheres que trabalhavam na moagem da cana ,porque será que os senhores preferiam que
Alona [7]

In the plantations, male and female slaves were both responsible for all the planting, harvesting and cleaning of the fields under extremely harsh and inhumane conditions. The harvesting was carried out by broad curved machetes and afterwards the ripe sugar canes were loaded into carts and taken to the sugar cane mills erected in the plantation estates to be processed into sugar and its derivatives.

In the sugar cane mills, during the harvesting periods work was 24 hours none stop to meet up with supply deadlines as most of the machinery used were slow and inefficient.

In contrast to what happened in the plantation fields, the slave masters preferred female slaves working in the sugar cane mills. Theirs was a particularly hazardous and life-threatening responsibility as it involved pushing the sugar cane stalks into wooden and metal rollers to crush and extract the sugar cane juice and also operating the sugar cane broiler.

This preference was because:

 • For economic reasons, though the slaves were bought, the human value of the slaves was never considered. The value of the end product was highly priced. Human slave life was easily replaced by the masters.
 • And since working the sugar mills was a highly hazardous activity lives were frequently lost as the mill rollers were know to have crushed to death and maimed many slaves. In most parts of the world where African slaves were used, female slaves were sold at a cheaper value than their male counterparts. Therefore it stands to reason that the slaves masters would prefer the female slaves regarded as "cheaper replacements"
 • Since work in the mills had to work 24 hours none stop, the environment had to be washed, swept frequently and kept clean to sustain a minimum level of cleaness and higiene. Female slaves were considered ideal for this as well.
