Quito, officially San Francisco de Quito, is the capital of the Republic of Ecuador, is the most populated canton of the country, capital of the Province of Pichincha and the oldest in South America. It has more than 2.7 million inhabitants according to the latest statistics published by the INEC in 2018. It is also the cantonal or district capital of the Metropolitan District of Quito.
