What motivated new world colonies to trade goods with each other

Hello! 

Different colonies had different land. So they could grow different crops, which motivated them to trade so that they could have more of different items. They wanted to have a variety of items to please everyone. So I would say it would be because they wanted new items/choices of crops/materials.
