A fruit fly has diploid cells with 8 chromosomes. Explain how many chromosomes are in its haploid gametes

Biology

8 0

Answer:

4

Explanation:

Diploid means 2n

Haploid means n

Here we have 2n=8 (because fruit fly has diploid cells with 8 chromosomes) to get to n which is haploid divide by 2, you get n=4

Why food must be digested before entering your cells?
S_A_V [24]

Answer:

Digestion is important for breaking down food into nutrients, which the body uses for energy, growth, and cell repair. Food and drink must be changed into smaller molecules of nutrients before the blood absorbs them and carries them to cells throughout the body.     Protein must be broken down into amino acids.     Starches break down into simple sugars.     Fats break down into into fatty acids and glycerol.

What is the basic difference between simple diffusion and facilitated diffusion across a cell membrane? hints?
Licemer1 [7]

Simple diffusion is the process by which a substance moves across a cell membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. Substances that move by simple diffusion are able to diffuse directly across the phospholipid bilayer of the cell membrane. These substances are generally small and neutral, as large or charged particles cannot cross the phospholipid bilayer. Some examples of molecules that move by simple diffusion are carbon dioxide and oxygen.

Facilitated diffusion is the process by which a substance moves across a cell membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration with the aid of a membrane protein. Substances that move by facilitated diffusion are not able to diffuse directly across the phospholipid bilayer of the cell membrane. These substances are generally large and/or charged. They therefore travel through a protein channel in the cell membrane along their concentration gradient. Some examples of substances that can move by facilitated diffusion are glucose, sodium ions and chloride ions.

The similarities between facilitated diffusion and simple diffusion are:

They both involve the movement of a substance across a cell membrane along its concentration gradient (from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration).

They are both examples of passive transport, as neither requires energy from the cell to move the substance across the membrane.

7. What is the kinetic energy of a 3-kilogram ball that is rolling at 2 meters per second?
nydimaria [60]
Kinetic energy = 0.5*M*V^2

 Q7-

0.5*3*(2^2)= 6J

Q8a-

0.5*2*(2^2)= 4J
0.5*4*(3^2)=18J
the second ball has more kinetic energy.

Q8b-

at the max height, all the kinetic energy is converted to potential energy,

gravitational potential energy is = M*g*h

that theory would apply if you wanted to work out the maximum height achieved if the balls were thrown upward by rearranging. But, we are simply working out which ball will have more potential energy so:

First ball:
2kg*9.81(g)*10m = 196.2J

Second ball
4kg*9.81*10m= 392.4J

The second ball has more potential energy
