What are the various factors to include in the dietary management of GERD? What foods tend to be problematic?

Include in the dietary management: 
- Vegetables (low in fat and sugar): green beans, broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, leafy greens, cucumbers

- Ginger (due to its inflmmatory properties

- Oatmeal (source of fiber, it can absorb acid in the stomach)

- Lean meats (chicken, turkey, fish, seafor -are low fat and reduce symptoms): try grilled, broiled, baked and poached.

- Egg whites 

- Healthy fats (avocados, walnuts, flaxseed, olive oil, sesame oil)


Foods that tend to be problematic:
- High-fat foods (fried, farry): can cause the LES to elax, allowing more acid to the esophagus. 

- Citrus fruit 

- Chocolate

- Garlic, onions, spicy foods

- Caffeine (Coke, coffee)

- Mint

- Tea
