The patient may have imbalance of the Thyroxine hormone, which is produced by the thyroid glands. It is known to have a significant effect of basal metabolic rates, as they stimulate the metabolic functions of tissues all over the body. An excess of thyroxine may cause BMR to spike up. This is most commonly seen in women after they have reached menopause. Women nearing menopause may also experience increased basal metabolic rate.

Evolve Rationale:

Body temperature is assessed during physical assessment. An increased basal metabolism rate increases the body temperature. Hormonal imbalances may alter the basal metabolic rate (BMR). Testosterone regulates the BMR in males. Thyroid hormone regulates the BMR of the body. Increases in the levels of these hormones may increase the BMR, which may in turn raise body temperature. Cortisol regulates blood glucose levels. Estrogen and progesterone are female hormones that do not regulate the BMR.

Provide an adaptive and a nonadaptive hypothesis for the evolutionary loss of useless organs, such as eyes in many cave-dwelling
Zepler [3.9K]

In order to be able to Provide an adaptive and a non-adaptive hypothesis, the following is required

What is adaptation?

It refers to a trait or an integrated set of traits that increases the fitness of an organism. It is the process of improving the fit of phenotype to environment through natural selection.

What is non adaptation?

it refers to those traits that do not result in the better adaptation of the organism to its environment, and does not increase the genetic fitness of the organism.

Let us take the case of vain organs. There may be a metabolic value to constructing a vain organ, and subsequently the humans who have misplaced that organ might also have a selective advantage. Also, if the organ is useless, the mutations that disrupt the improvement of that organ would be evolutionarily neutral, and may want to unfold to fixation via genetic drift.

So an adaptive hypothesis as to why an organism may lose useless organs is energy trade offs. The organism may additionally be losing energy in growing and retaining a vain organ, whilst this strength can be higher used someplace else. So an organism that lives in a darkish cave might also sooner or later lose its eyes considering eyes are of no use inside a darkish cave.

A non adaptive hypothesis for the evolutionary loss of organs can be random mutation. If a random mutation occurs that causes an organism to lose its eyes, in a dark cave where it does not use its eyes anyway, it could still survive, reproduce and pass that mutation down.

Why do two wet glass slides stick together
alexdok [17]
Two wet glass slides stick together because the adhesive force acting between the glass and water is responsible for sticking up of the slides , the water trapped between the slides has a lower pressure as compared to the atmospheric pressures

Which is a phenomenon that can result from directional selection? a. There is an increase in the number of different breeds of d
anzhelika [568]

Answer:

B) There is an increase in the number of giraffes with long necks in areas of Africa where low-growing trees have died

Explanation:

The directional selection is one of the ways of the natural selection in which the natural selection selects or favours the most extreme trait of the species and the extreme trait show higher fitness than the normal or average trait.

In the given question, the case of Giraffe necks shows directional selection as the normal length of the neck is not favoured by the environment but the extreme trait that is long neck is favoured by the environment and the selection shifted to that level.

Thus, Option-B is the correct answer.

Which best describes how food availability affects the carrying capacity of an area?
ruslelena [56]

Answer:

I believe your answer would be "B"

Explanation:

If the food supply increases for a spider, they will reproduce faster, creating more food for the next animal in the food chain, and then that animal will reproduce faster, creating more food for the next animal, and so on! This would create more room for more animals because they can reproduce faster and create more all together.
