Its says use rounding or compatible numbers to estimate the sum and example 198 + 727 ans is 200+725=925 I still don't understan

d how to do it. Heres a problem 87+34 and here is one 222+203

Compatible numbers are number that are easy to add together.
If I change 87 to 90 and 34 to 30 I have compatible numbers
90 + 30 = 120.    I would probably just change the 87 to 90 since I could to 90 + 34 mentally and get 124 which is closer to the exact answer.
222 + 203 - becomes 220 +200 = 420
 May I suggest that you can also balance the numbers:  when you change 87 to 90 you added 3.  To compensate, subtract 3 from 34 and get 31.  90+31= 121, the exact answer.
222 becomes 200 so you lowered it by two. To compensate add 2 to 203.  Now you have 220+205= 425 which again, is the exact answer.  Use estimation is needed but what I just showed you works well to and give you the exact answer.
One more:  199 + 306 =   200 + 305 = 505 (exactly) Instead of 200 + 300 = 500 which is a close estimate using compatible numbers.

Consider a sample with data values of 27, 25, 20, 15, 30, 34, 28, and 25. Compute the range, interquartile range, variance, and
Valentin [98]

So we have a set of integers,

X=\{15,20,25,25,27,28,30,34\}

And we need to compute some stats.

First the range,

The range of data set is difference between the maximum and the minimum of the data set.

So the minimum is 15 and maximum is 34 therefore the range is 34 - 15 = 19.

Second the interquartile range,

The interquartile range of data set is the difference of the first and third quartiles.

First quartile is the value separating the lower quarter and higher three - quarters of the set. The first quartile is computed by taking median of the lower half of the sorted set. This is 15, 20, 25, 25 and it's median is 22.5

Third quartile is therefore the median of 27, 28, 30, 34 which is 29.

Next up, variance.

The variance of set measures how much data is spread out. For data set x_1,\dots, x_n with an average a,

\mathsf{var}(X)=\Sigma_{i=1}^{n}\dfrac{(x_i-a)^2}{n-1}

So first compute the average value which is actually a mean,

a=\dfrac{1}{2}\Sigma_{i=1}^{n}a_i

The sum \Sigma_{i=1}^{n}a_i of numbers in set is 204.

Divide this by number of elements in the set (8).

a=\dfrac{204}{8}=25.5

Then compute the variance,

\mathsf{var}(X)=\dfrac{\Sigma_{i=1}^{n}(x_i-a)^2}{n-1}\approx\boxed{34.57}

And finally standard deviation,

Since have computed variance the standard deviation is nothing too hard. It's defined as a square root of variance,

\mathsf{sde}(X)=\sqrt{\dfrac{\Sigma_{i=1}^{n}(x_i-a)^2}{n-1}}=\sqrt{34.57}\approx\boxed{5.88}

Hope this helps.

What does 4 to 20 mean in ratios
Sophie [7]

Answer:

1/5

Step-by-step explanation:                                                             4

"4 to 20" is in itself a ratio.  This can be written as 4:20 or as -------

                                                                                                        20

and this last result reduces to 1/5.

See the picture below
just olya [345]

Answer:

236.22 cubic centimeters

Step-by-step explanation:

We need to find volume of 3 tennis balls and subtract it from volume of the cylinder to get our answer.

Volume of sphere (tennis ball) = \frac{4}{3}\pi r^3

<u>Note:</u> Radius is half of diameter, which is r = 6.7/2 = 3.35

Volume of 3 tennis balls = 3*\frac{4}{3}\pi r^3\\=3*\frac{4}{3}\pi (3.35)^3\\=472.44

Volume of Cylinder = \pi r^2 h

<u>Note:</u> radius is 3.35 and height is diameter of 3 tennis balls stacked on top of each other, so height is 6.7 * 3 = 20.1

Hence,

Volume of Cylinder = \pi r^2 h\\=\pi (3.35)^2 (20.1)\\=708.66

amount of space not taken up = 708.66 - 472.44 = 236.22 cubic centimeters
