Transitioning from 4^x to 4^(x+1) involves shifting the graph of 4^x 1 unit to the LEFT.  From there, shifting the graph downward 2 units produces the new graph (with one horiz. translation and one vertical translation).

One unit left. two units down.

because 1 is added to the power (x), we shift the graph one to the left.

the -2 on the end refers to the position of the asymptote from where it originally was. so it effectively means two down.

What is an equation of the line containing the points (-1,5) and (3,9)
Lady bird [3.3K]

Answer:

  y = x+6

Step-by-step explanation:

You can find an equation by using the 2-point form of the equation for a line:

  y = (y2 -y1)/(x2 -x1)·(x -x1) +y1

Filling in the given values, we have ...

  y = (9 -5)/(3 -(-1))·(x -(-1)) +5

  y = (4/4)(x +1) +5 . . . . simplifying a bit

  y = x +6

Part 3: Find the inverse function, f –1(x), for the function f (x) = x2 + 10x + 28.
jasenka [17]

Answer:

-5+(√x-3) and -(√x-3)-5

Step-by-step explanation:

change f(x) to 'y' and then interchange x and y; then solve for y

y = x² + 10x + 28

x = y² + 10y + 28

you can use the Quadratic Formula to evaluate y² + 10y + 28 and will get:

-5+(√x-3) and -(√x-3)-5
