Answer:

I believe that youth sports have become too intense. Many kids today play extracurricular sports starting at a young age, exposing them to athletic injuries. Youth sports include soccer, basketball, lacrosse, and even wrestling.  Those sports are only examples of the sports available to kids today. Sports can cause minor and major injuries, and although it is called "youth" sports, the rules are still the same. Competitiveness can lead to kids accidentally injuring each other. The intenseness of youth sports can also burn out the passion and motivation for the sport, as it is too stressful for some kids. In fact, 7 out of 10 kids who play organized sports quit by age 13, according to the National Alliance for Youth Sports. Youth sports have become too intense as it may be too stressful for children and can cause injuries.

He quit smoking five years ago; he still craves a cigarette from time to time." Is this sentence a run-on, or is it written corr
rjkz [21]

Answer:

The sentence "He quit smoking five years ago; he still craves a cigarette from time to time" is written correctly.

Explanation:

In the structure we are analyzing here, we have two independent clauses that were correctly put together with proper punctuation. It's worth remembering that an independent clause is a group of words that can stay alone as a sentence. It offers information that makes sense without the help of another sentence.

A run-on sentence only happens when independent clauses are joined incorrectly. If put together without any sort of punctuation, we have a fused sentence. When we join them only with a comma, we have a comma splice. One way to prevent these mistakes from happening is to join the clauses with a semicolon, and that is precisely what we have in the structure given. It is safe to conclude, thus, that "He quit smoking five years ago; he still craves a cigarette from time to time" is correct.
