Forgetting can be defined as the inability to retrieve encoded information stored in the brain known as memory or the inability to retrieve data/memory stored in the brain. There are different theories on forgetting, few will be discussed;

(1). Trace Decay Theory: the trace decay theory is a forgetting theory that states that as time increases, the all memories called memory trace deteriorates/disintegrate.

(2). Interference Theory: is a forgetting theory that states as one learn something new, there is higher probability of forgetting the older ones.

(3). Cue dependent forgetting: is the theory of forgetting that suggests that forgetting is the result of a failure to access stored memories. It is also called retrieval failure.
