The main option for outside employment for middle-class women in the 1820s and 30s is factory industry. The difference is, women nowadays are free to choose what their career to be.

EXPLANATION

In the early 1800s, industrialization began pulling Northeast women out of the house to work in factories and schools. Lowell Mills in Massachusetts became a famous place for working women.

While many women work for a living, others choose to stay at home and professionalize the job of boarding houses. This is part of the culture of 19th-century domesticity.

Whereas African-American women in the South remained enslaved in this period, did not get benefit from a culture of domesticity or independent work. Native American women are overwhelmed with increasingly erratic work as Indian Removal and Manifest Destiny continue to shift them further west.

Today, in an increasingly open and modern era the role of women is very unlimited. For example, the reins of leadership in politics which were always dominated by men, now women also have the opportunity to do so. The emancipation of women is increasingly echoed, equality of rights is also increasingly recognized by many people. Now women are free to choose what their career to be. There is no longer a gender limit let. There is no longer the assumption that women are weak creatures.

ludmilkaskok [199]

Answer:

Tan’s anecdotes further her argument because they make the points in her argument personal. Which appeals to readers with a personal story of how the use of English can determine how someone is seen or treated. The anecdotes in this story make the reader feel sympathetic for Tan’s mother and the way she was treated because of her use of “broken” english.
