It stated that they could void any laws that were deemed unconstitutional. It was created by South Carolina's 1832 Ordinance of Nullification. This ordinance declared, by the power of the state, that the federal tariff were unconstitutional therefore null and avoid within sovereign boundaries of South Carolina.<span />

If they did not hold your assets as collateral, you could simply fail to pay back the loan and really not lose anything other than your credit score. Many borrowers already have tarnished credit scores, so that is rarely enough incentive to base a loan on.
