How geography impacted trade in Africa

The land was consisted of fertilized soil but it also had its bad areas for farming. Africa's rain forests had heavy rainfalls, it was always warm with many trees and plants so farming was very difficult there, but Africa counted with tropical vast grasslands. They stretched from North and South which was known as the Savanna. This place was full of small trees and shrubs and high temperatures, containing enough rain to farm and for herding. We also know that they didn't use deserts to travel for trading due to many factors, like the fact that they were hot, dry and sandy which made it difficult to travel. Thanks to their Mediterranean- at the north coast and south tip of Africa, they had a great advantage in trading. The Mediterranean contained enough rainfall with warm temperatures; abundant crops, fertile land, food surplus support and large population. But their main strength for trading was in Ghana, grasslands stretching across North Central Africa. This place became a powerful trading empire due to its location, being located close to salt and gold mines. They most traded Gold, ivory, spices, leather and ostrich feathers. They also transported slaves who were captured in wars.
