Mathematics

Answer:

8 m, 17 m and 22 m

Step-by-step explanation:

The first side is x

The second is 1 more than twice the first = 2x + 1

The third is 2 less than 3 times the first = 3x - 2

Sum the 3 sides and equate to 47

x + 2x + 1 + 3x - 2 = 47, that is

6x - 1 = 47 ( add 1 to both sides )

6x = 48 ( divide both sides by 6 )

x = 8

Thus

side 1 = 8 m

side 2 = 2x + 1 = 2(8) + 1 = 16 + 1 = 17 m

side 3 = 3x - 2 = 3(8) - 2 = 24 - 2 = 22 m

10. A small plane was scheduled to fly from Atlanta to Washington, D.C. The plane flies at a constant speed of 230 miles per
MatroZZZ [7]

Answer:  The plane had traveled about 264 miles before turning back. The average speed was 230 mph

Step-by-step explanation: 230 - 10 = 220 speed outgoing

230+10 = 240 speed returning

Average speed (220+240)÷2= 460/2 =230 mph (needless to calculate!) Multiplied by total time 2.3 hours = 529 miles total distance.

Traveling the entire distance at 220mph would take about 2.4 hours. Traveling the entire distance at 240mph would take about 2.2 hours, a difference of .20 hours. Cut those times in half:

Traveling at 220mph for 1.2 hours would cover about 264 miles.

Traveling at 240mph for 1.1 hours would cover about 264 miles.

It adds up to 528 miles. The plane can't turn instantly, so figure the turn took the missing mile!

Which of the algebraic expressions are not linear expressions? Select all that apply. a. 3x - 2 b. -9y c. -7x^2^ + 4x d. -1/2x^2
Sedaia [141]

Answer:

c, d and e

Step-by-step explanation:

A linear expression is an expression in which sum of exponents of variables is at most 1 in each of its terms.

Option a: 3x - 2

Here, the exponent of the variable is 1.

So, it is a linear expression.

Option b: -9y

Here, the exponent of the variable is 1.

So, it is a linear expression.

Option c: -7x^2 + 4x

Here, the highest exponent of the variable is 2.

So, it is NOT a linear expression.

Option d: -\frac{1}{2} x^2

Here, the exponent of the variable is 2.

So, it is NOT a linear expression.

Option e: 8xy

Here, sum of exponents of variables is 2.

So, it is NOT a linear expression.

Hence, c, d and e are NOT algebraic expressions.
