“Confirmation bias” is our tendency to prefer information that supports our viewpoints.

According to psychologists, confirmation bias is the way we interpret and collect information in order to favor our preexisting ideas and beliefs. This tendency leads us to look or select information that supports our beliefs and to ignore or deny any other evidence that differs from our points of view on any given topic.

The problem with confirmation bias is that in our effort to back up our viewpoints with selective evidence, we might not be getting the real picture of a given situation.
