There are 64 students in a speech contest. Yesterday, Ā of them gave their speeches. Today, 7 of the remaining students gave the
Alexxx [7]

Answer:

23

Step-by-step explanation:

Ā means the average

So it means the average of 64 gave their speech which should be 64/2 = 32

So 32 gave their speeches yesterday,

7 gave today

Total number that has given is

32 + 7 = 39

Therefore the number remaining are

62 - 39 = 23

What is the axis of symmetry of h(x) = –2x2 + 12x – 3?
murzikaleks [220]
The axis of symmetry is the x value of the vertex
we have a handy-dandy way of finding that from standard form, ax^2+bx+c=y

for
ax^2+bx+c=y
the x value of the vertex is -b/2a

y=-2x^2+12x-3
-b/2a=-12/(2*-2)=-12/-4=3

x=3 is the axis of symmetry

The task I need explaining is: how to show that an estimate of the mean time spent on homework is 64.8 minutes. Thanks!
xenn [34]
It's just an estimate.  There's no telling how close it is.

To estimate using just the information in the table,
ASSUME that the average of all the students in each
slot is the average time of that slot.

I know that's confusing.  I can't think of a better way to say it,
so here are two examples of what I mean.  Look at the table:

-- 6 students said that they spent between 0 and 30 minutes.
ASSUME that those 6 students averaged 15 minutes each.

-- 21 students said that they spent between 60 and 90 minutes.
ASSUME that those 21 students averaged 75 minutes each.

So, when you add up the times for all 50 students, you'll have

 (6 x 15 min) + (14 x 45 min) + (21 x 75min) + (9 x 105 min) =

When you total up all those times, divide it by 50 to estimate
the average per student.

Remember ... it's only an estimate.
If the first group had 1 student that spent 2 minutes, and
the other 5 of them spent 29 minutes, then it won't work.
But you'll never know.

-4 (r + 2) = 4 (2 - 2r)
Nady [450]

Answer:

r=4

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's solve your equation step-by-step.

−4(r+2)=4(2−2r)

Step 1: Simplify both sides of the equation.

−4(r+2)=4(2−2r)

(−4)(r)+(−4)(2)=(4)(2)+(4)(−2r)(Distribute)

−4r+−8=8+−8r

−4r−8=−8r+8

Step 2: Add 8r to both sides.

−4r−8+8r=−8r+8+8r

4r−8=8

Step 3: Add 8 to both sides.

4r−8+8=8+8

4r=16

Step 4: Divide both sides by 4.

4r
