<u>There was a widespread belief that education was harmful and unnecessary for girls. </u>This was an obstacle that Emma Willards found to provide schools for girls. After a while Willard presented the "Plan to Improve Women's Education" written in 1819 "that was presented to the members of the New York Legislature, which was not answered because lawmakers had concerns about women's education being contrary to the will of God.
