d + 8 = 1/4(x-9)
        d + 8 = 1/4x - 9/4
            - 8               - 8
    ------------------------------
        d = 1/4x - 17

I just realized that this is not the answer you are looking for. It's an equation, not a value. Sorry about that.

Answer:
d = -9

Explanation:
The slope of the line can be calculated using the following formula:
slope = \frac{y2-y1}{x2-x1}

We are given:
slope = \frac{1}{4}
point (9,-8) representing (x1,y1)
point (5,d) representing (x2,y2)

Substitute with the givens in the above equation and solve for d as follows:
slope = \frac{1}{4}
\frac{1}{4} = \frac{d-(-8)}{5-9}
\frac{1}{4} = \frac{d+8}{-4}
4(d+8) = -4
d + 8 = -1
d = -1 - 8
d = -9

Hope this helps :)

the lengths of two sides of a triangle are 15 and 13. find the lengths that the third side must be greater and less then.
SCORPION-xisa [38]

Answer:

greater than 2

less than 28

Step-by-step explanation:

The sum of the lengths of the two shortest sides must be more than the length of the longest side. If x is the shortest side, ...

... x + 13 > 15

... x > 2

If x is the longest side, ...

... 13 +15 > x

... x < 28

Then the allowed range for the third side is ...

... 2 < x < 28

Which equation has roots of 13 and -3
madreJ [45]
To get roots of 13 and -3 the simplified equation will have to look like this.
(X-13)(X+3)=0
So if we multiply this out with foil method we get this:

X^2 -10X -39

So the answer is A

If < A and < B are supplementary, and < A = 3x - 9 degrees, and < B = 2x + 14 degrees, find x.
Annette [7]

Answer:

Option c, 35

Step-by-step explanation:

<A and <B are supplementary,

so, <A+<B = 180

or, 3x-9+2x+14=180

or, 5x+5=180

or, 5x=175

or, x=35
