Using the distance formula, you can determine the lengths of the sides of the shape.  This will help determine if triangles are equilateral, isosceles or scalene; or if quadrilaterals are squares, rectangles, rhombi, or isosceles trapezoids; or if other polygons are regular polygons.  The slope formula will tell help you determine if two sides are parallel.  In a quadrilateral, this will help you determine if the figure is a parallelogram or a trapezoid.

Setler [38]

Answer:

see explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

We require to find the third side of the triangle.

Using Pythagoras' identity

The square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares on the other 2 sides.

let x represent the third side, then

x² + 15² = 17², that is

x² + 225 = 289 ( subtract 225 from both sides )

x² = 64 ( take the square root of both sides )

x = \sqrt{64} = 8

Thus

tanΘ = \frac{opposite}{adjacent} = \frac{15}{8}

cosΘ = \frac{adjacent}{hypotenuse} = \frac{8}{17}

sinΘ = \frac{opposite}{hypotenuse} = \frac{15}{17}

cscΘ = \frac{1}{sin0} = \frac{1}{\frac{15}{17} } = \frac{17}{15}
