Realism is said to be a reaction to Romanticism because it rejected the views of the Age of Enlightment -when emotions and the essence of being were emphasized- and depicted life by describing everyday activities, including harsh, authentic struggles. Realism rejected Romanticism by leaving aside the idealized subjects. Romanticism was, then, an idealized view of reality, while Realism represented subject matters truthfully.

The community is safer because no one will become heartbroken and act out. People tend to act out of anger or sadness when they are hurt meaning this could cause violent problems or problems in general. So it is better that no one feels anything at all.
