The social structure of society shifted during the renaissance due to the popularity of art and its importance. Artists became of higher status and were praised for their work and creativity. Painting and other forms of art were appreciated more during this time and therefore altered the social standing of artists from regular peasants to prominent figures in society and government.

Because of the growth of Greek and Roman artistic treasures, small artists exceeded in status to upmost respect and prospered above and beyond shifting the social structure.
