Answer:The cells that produce hair contain a lot of ROUGH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM , while the cells that produce the oils that coat the hair contain a lot of SMOOTH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM.

Explanation: ROUGH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM or  RER is a cisternae organelle that have two faces: the cytosolic face and the nucleus face. The cytosolic face is studded with ribosomes that are responsible for synthesizing proteins, a process known as translation. In the cells that produce hair, keratinocytes, the main protein synthesized is keratin.

SMOOTH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM is an organelle that lacks ribosomes and the function is related to lipid synthesis, different case that proteins synthesis. Specialized cells located in the SER (smooth endoplasmic reticulum) produces the oils that coat the hair called sebum to lubricate the hair. These cells secrete the sebum in an holocrine way. The composition of the sebum is made of triglycerides, wax esters, squalene.

Answer:

1. rough endoplasmic reticulum

2. smooth endoplasmic reticulum

Explanation:

Hair, which is made up of cells called KERATINOCYTES, is primarily made up of a protein called KERATIN. Cells in every part of the body contains organnelles that performs certain functions. Based on the asked question, we'll be looking at two of these organnelles; Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum and Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum.

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is a cellular organnelle that is directly involved in the production of proteins in a cell due to the attachment of ribosomes (site of protein synthesis) to it. Hence, RER is responsible for the production of matured proteins in a cell. The Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum, on the other hand, is involved in the synthesis of lipids (fats and oils) in a cell.

Since the hair is basically made up of keratin protein, it is just sensible that the cells responsible for the production of hair (keratinocytes) will be rich in the organnelles that produces proteins (Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum) while the cells that produces the oily substances that coat the hair will be rich in the organnelle that synthesizes oil (Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum).

What is the difference between active transport and passive transport
Irina18 [472]
Active transport requires energy to transfer material in and out of the cell.

Passive transport is automatic and does not require energy.

Examples of Active: Endocytosis and Exocytosis.

Examples of Passive: Facilitated Diffusion, Simple Diffusion, and Osmosis.

<h3>⇝ <u>Epidermis</u> :</h3>

Protective tissues includes epidermis & cork. Epidermis is basically a simple permanent tissue, protective in function. It forms one-cell-thick covering over all the parts of plant.

<h3>⇝ <u>Characteristics of Epidermis</u> : </h3>
  • Epidermis is formed of living cells, arranged in a single layer.

  • In aerial parts, epidermis is covered with a waterproof and noncellular waxy covering called cuticle.

  • Cells form a continuous layer, but in leaves epidermis has small openings called stomata.

  • Each stoma is guarded by a pair of bean-shaped guard cells which govern opening & closing of stomatal aperture.

<h3>⇝ <u>Functions of Epidermis</u> :</h3>
  • Epidermis protects the underlying tissues from mechanical injury, chemicals & infection.

  • Cuticle of epidermis protects against water loss & desiccation. It checks the rate of transpiration & evaporation and prevents wilting.

  • Stomata in the epidermis of leaves help in gaseous exchange during respiration & photosynthesis.
