There would be a difference in working with a medical specialist compared to a general practitioner as the general practitioner who is a medical doctor treating the illnesses as a whole while a medical specialist practices a specific branch of medicine thus would focus only to one type.

In terms of learning about medicine, medical specialist is specific in terms of their practice. They are trained to treat patient with specialized health issues and they are confined with specific organs of the body. One of this is the pediatric surgeon that has a particular skill in conducting surgery with children.

Meanwhile, general practitioner has a holistic approach when managing types of illness of patients of any age and sex to levels of complexity that vary between countries.
