3 : 8....can be written as 3/8
12 lbs of apples were sold

apples / oranges : 3/8 = 12/x
this is a proportion, so we cross multiply
(3)(x) = (12)(8)
3x = 96
x = 96/3
x = 32 <=== 32 lbs of oranges

notice that 3/8 = 12/32....these are equivalent fractions....because that is what proportions are, equivalent fractions

Prove: If n is a positiveinteger and n2 is<br> divisible by 3, then n is divisible by3.
notka56 [123]

Answer:

If n^2 is divisible by 3, the n is also divisible by 3.

Step-by-step explanation:

We will prove this with the help of contrapositive that is we prove that if n is not divisible by 3, then, n^2 is not divisible by 3.

Let n not be divisible by 3. Then \frac{n}{3} can be written in the form of fraction \frac{x}{y}, where x and y are co-prime to each other or in other words the fraction is in lowest form.

Now, squaring

\frac{n^2}{9} = \frac{x^2}{y^2}

Thus,

n^2 = \frac{9x^2}{y^2}

\frac{n^2}{3} = \frac{3x^2}{y^2}

It can be clearly seen that the fraction \frac{3x^2}{y^2} is in lowest form.

Hence, n^2 is not divisible by 3.

Thus, by contrapositivity if n^2 is divisible by 3, the n is also divisible by 3.

In 10 minutes, the top three finishers in a hot dog eating contest consumed a total of 130 hot dogs. the winner, person a, ate 8
Vera_Pavlovna [14]
Let x be how many hot dogs person b ate

therefore, person a ate x+8 hotdogs
and person c ate x-10 hotdogs

they all ate 130 hotdogs in total so
x + x + 8 + x - 10 = 130
3x -2 = 130
3x = 132
x = 44

so person b ate 44 hotdogs
person a ate 8 more so 52 hotdogs
and person c ate 10 less than person b so 34 hotdogs

The equation x2 + y2 − 2x + 2y − 1 = 0 is the general form of the equation of a circle. What is the standard form of the equatio
Alla [95]
X^2 + y^2 - 2x + 2y - 1 = 0

(x^2 - 2x) + (y^2 + 2y) - 1 = 0

(x^2 - 2x + 1) + (y^2 + 2y + 1) - 1 - 1 - 1 = 0

(x - 1)^2 + (y + 1)^2 - 3 = 0

(x - 1)^2 + (y + 1)^2 = 3
