Word choice can speed up, or slow down the pace of the story significantly, using words with a darker tone such as "trudge", indicate a slower pace. Whilst using a word such as "energetic", with it having a lighter tone, may speed up the pace of the story, providing energy within the text. With that being said, there are many other word choices that can impact the pace of a story, these are just a couple examples.
