Dr. Ara B. Dopsis wants to create a "tomato", a hybrid between a tomato that has 12 chromosomes (total) and a potato that has 48
uysha [10]

Answer:

30

Explanation:

According to the given information, the diploid chromosome number of tomato is 12. And the diploid chromosome number of potato is 48. Gametes are haploid and contain only one complete set of chromosomes. Therefore, the haploid gametes of tomato would have 6 chromosomes while that of the potato plant would have 24 chromosomes. The fusion of these gametes from tomato and potato would obtain the zygote carrying 6 chromosomes from tomato and 24 chromosomes from potato. Therefore, before doubling, the hybrid would have 6 + 24= 30 chromosomes.

Compare and contrast the cells found in a plant's roots, stems, and leaves.
olya-2409 [2.1K]
The leaf cells are brick shaped and contain chloroplasts to make food for the plant through photosynthesis, root cells are long tubular to transport food, water and wastes from the leaves of the plants while the stem cells are smaller and thicker to provide strength and support to the whole plant. All these cells are part of plants which are necessary for the survival of the plant, and all work together to perform the plants life activities.
