Explanation:

During the fracking process, water mixed with chemicals such as biocides and surfactants, is injected into oil wells to fracture the rock in which the oil and gas layer is and also creates pressure to force the fossil fuels out. Some of these contaminated water resurfaces and there end up in water sources by drainage.

Furthermore, the fracking process may destroy water aquifers below and contaminate the underground water. When these waters are consumed by communities, it could lead to health disasters and destroyed ecosystems.

The use of water in fracking also depletes water from water sources especially in regions that are water-scarce. Fracking goes against water conservation efforts and can cause water scarcity and imbalances in ecosystems.
