Scientists can use mutants to study metabolic pathways. These organisms have a mutation in a gene encoding a metabolic pathway e
lisabon 2012 [21]

Answer:

Pyruvate kinase

Explanation:

Yeasts convert glycerol and sugars into glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (G3P) through independent pathways. Then, G3P forms pyruvate and, in some circumstances, pyruvate is converted in ethanol, which can be used as energy sources. If the mutation affects any reaction before G3P formation, it will only affect yeast growing either on sugar or pyruvate but not both.

Pyruvate kinase is the only enzyme on the list acting after G3P is formed and before pyruvate is formed. All other options are enzymes acting only in the formation of G3P from sugars. Meaning that only pyruvate kinase mutants will lack the ability to grow on both sugars and glycerol.

exis [7]
Vestigial traits are adaptations to environmental pressures which are no longer present.

homologous structures are similar structures found in different species that were present in a common ancestor.

analogous traits are similar traits found in different species that were developed independently (this process is known as convergent evolution)

Describe an example of a relationship between a cell organelle and a task that a cell must preform
Bezzdna [24]

Answer:

Protein Synthesis

Explanation:

DNA transcribes information into the RNA of the nucleus. Transcription is making copies of information from DNA and applying that information into a new format. The RNA first stays in the nucleus and then travels to the ribosome on the rough endoplasmic reticulum through the cytoplasm. Here the translation of RNA done. The information the DNA which was copied onto the RNA during transcription is translated into a sequence of amino acids in this stage. In the next step, the amino acid chains, or polypeptides, are constructed in the correct sequence to form proteins.

After synthesis of protein, a part of the rough endoplasmic reticulum takes off and separates to form a protein-filled vesicle. Then this vesicle travel to the Golgi complex where the protein is modified if needed and then repackaged into a new vesicle. The vesicles then carry out the protein to another organelle where it will be used within the cell or to the plasma membrane for secretion purposes.
