- Positive correlation: a variable increase if other does. Exmaple: the more you practice football the better you would be playing football.

- Negative correlation: a variable decrease if other does. Example: the less you sleep the more you would be tired.

- No correlation: take place when a variable is not affected if other increase or decrease. Example: how long you watch TV and how the lentgh of your hair.

Then, according with the researcher reports, there is a no or poor correlation  between grade point average and the number of hours spent studying for college students. However, there could be a very small correlation, just the study could not demonstrate it.
