The fight over Black Coyote's rifle intensified and a shot was fired, resulting in a 7th Cavalry shootout indiscriminately on all sides of the site, killing men, women and children, as well as some of their own fellow soldiers. Many Lakota Warrior even tried to fight, but had their weapons removed already and were shot down anyway.
